Keepin’ Things Real: Charlie Sheen; Middle East Turmoil; HOPE FOR TODAY!

March 02, 2011

"We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield"

Psalm 33:20

If you watch the nightly news, read the latest blogs and news feeds, pay attention to the celebrity headlines, watch the Academy Awards, it won't take you long to realize we live in a messed up world.  This world seems to be falling apart at an unprecedented rate.  We shouldn't be surprised, the Scriptures told us this would happen.  That's why we need to take our focus off of this world and place it back on Christ.  The Psalmist knew this when he penned that our hope is in the LORD.  In the midst of it all, how awesome to know that our hope is in the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.  He is our help, He is our shield.  Isn't it awesome to be reminded that the creator of this world is not sitting up in heaven, pacing back and forth, ringing his hands, wondering what to do with all of this!  It isn't wonderful to know that "God's got it!"  That in the midst of our messed up climate, culture, contaminated shopping carts, rising gas prices and economic unrest...God's got it!

In fact, that's exactly what we need to focus on and truly live with Biblical HOPE.  True Biblical hope means a confident expectancy that God is going to do what HE promises.
Take a moment and read Romans 4.  You will see that Abraham got it.  He knew what real hope and faith required, where to place it and what to do about it.  In a very hopeless situation, against all hope with delayed promises and broken dreams, the scripture says that in hope and through hope, he did not weaken, he did not waiver through unbelief but gave glory to God because he was fully pursuaded that God would do what he promised.  Hebrews 11:1 tells us that "faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see" and verse 6 tells us that "without faith it is impossible to please God."  So today, walk in the freedom and power of Christ.  Take your eyes off of what you see all around you and put your faith and hope in Christ by turning your eyes back on Jesus...remember this is Christ in you, the Hope of Glory!
