Keepin’ Things Real: Wang Chung and God speaking

June 23, 2011

Ok, this might be a crazy title to a blog, but once you read it you will so understand.  First a little back-ground. It was last Wednesday and I (Dale) was getting my hair cut.  While waiting, I started listening to the music over the sound system. Before I knew it, I was tapping my feet, playing the drums on my leg (but I am far from a drummer) and I thought - HEY this is all the music from back in the day!  Yep, you guessed it, I was in a MID 80'S throw-back to my high-school & college days!  When the girl who cuts my hair walked up, seeing me "jammin" to the oldies, she said: "so you like the music, huh?"  "Of yea" I said, "and if I can get a little Wang Chung playin over the air-waves, it will make my day!"  Everybody laughed and said they remember dancing to that song.  Even the stylist in the next stations chimed in about how much she loved the 80's. Honestly, I am not a huge Wang Chung fan, and I know very little about the songs they released, except for "everybody have fun tonight - every body wang-chung tonight.  Well, literally as the conversations ended,  the very next song was, yep, you got it...Wang Chung's "Everybody have fun tonight!"

We all started to go NO WAY! That was too funny! And then Tiffany (the girl that cuts my hair) said - "You know Dale, God's just playing with you!" "He's just letting you know He's listening and having a little fun with you!"  And you know what, I think Tiffany was right.  I know, I know, some of you are thinking this is just coincidence.  That it was just a random chain of events.  And you can believe what you want...but for me, I am choosing to believe that my Savior is really that involved in my life and sometimes (not all the time) HE loves to step right into the middle of my day and have a little fun with me.

This whole event also reminded me of the journey we took several years ago on How to hear God's voice as you Walk with HIM.  So before you blow me off and log-off this blog, I want to remind you of a few truths for you today.  It starts with the foundation that God is working all around you.  That HE has not gone under-ground or silent.  That HE is still speaking today in all kinds of ways.  I am convinced that the problem with hearing God is NOT WITH GOD...the problem is WITH US!   The roars of this world, the busyness of our days, the demands on our "to do" list are keeping us from seeing God work and hearing God speak in real tangible ways! So for you, perhaps this blog is how the Lord is choosing to speak to you today!  That's why I want to close with a few reminders and share the greatest way that the Lord speaks to us and that is through HIS written Word.  Today....

Know that Christ is intimately aware of your ways! Your life is not an island and Christ has such great and wonderful plans for your life.  So, seek HIM with all of your heart

"I obey your precepts and your statutes, for all my ways are known to you." Psalm 119:168

"You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways." Psalm 139:3

that, no matter what you are facing today, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” DT. 31:8

"I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you." John 14:18

stop relying on your attributes, your abilities, your power and wisdom and let Christ lead you.  After all, HE stands ready, willing and able to strengthen YOU!

"For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him." 2 Chron. 16:9

"they will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.”  Isa. 35:2-4

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength" Phil 4:13

So in honor of my 80's throw back moment, everybody have fun tonight...everybody listen for God voice, that's right!

fully surrendered,

Dale and Jena

Speaking as "the stylist in the next station", I thought that was an awesome display of God relating to US! He likes to see His children happy and I'm sure God got a kick out of our 80's enjoyment. So I'm a believer. Keep it up my brother!

Thank you so much for this blog. You will never know how much it helped me today. I am not a member of your site, but know I was directed here by the Lord via a church I visited this month. I am presently experiencing some very difficult times with family and have allowed myself to fall into a deep depressed state of mind. I am a born again christian but feel so alone, thank you for reminded me that I am not alone and that Jesus is always there for me. I really needed to here this today.
